Crystal Jade Kitchen, Junction 8

Was deciding between Crystal Jade and Din Tai Fung to satisfy my dim sum craving. Settled for the former since I haven't tried it before and also because I was too lazy to head back to the latter which seemed to have a queue. But it was a wrong choice!



















At the start, the staff informed about two dishes which were not available. After placing orders, two staff then separately informed that two of the dishes we selected were not available too! Ended up with just four dishes.




















Steamed Shrimp Dumpling. The dumplings were stuck to one another. The skin was too thick and yet, it tore easily when I tried to separate one dumpling from the other.





















Steamed Chive with Prawn and Pork Dumpling. The skin again, was too thick. It tasted like the mass-produced type available at market stalls.




















Steamed Rice Roll with Pork Rib. The rice rolls were too thick as well. The pork ribs were rather tasty but hard. Disappointing for a restaurant like this.




















Deep-fried Dumpling with Prawn and Parsley. The worst among all. The filling was mushy and except for carrots, I couldn't quite make out what I was eating.


The service had much room for improvement too. The staff seemed impatient when we took awhile to decide our orders and we were initially billed for the dish which was not available!

This meal seriously failed to satisfy my craving and only the chrysanthemum tea was worth the money :(

Honeymoon Dessert, Bugis Junction

Ate a light lunch so I could save space for desserts.



















Mango in Vanilla Sauce with Thai Black Glutinous Rice. The mango was fresh and sweet. A pity that the black glutinous rice was not well-cooked so there were some hard grains. There were some yam bits mixed with the rice which I didn't quite like and towards the end, I spotted a few sweet corn. Hm...contaminated by other desserts? A pleasant treat, nevertheless.




















Mochi with Crushed Peanut and Sesame. The mochi was chewy and went well with the peanut and sesame. Unfortunately, the menu did not mention that there were coconut flakes! Didn't quite like it as the taste was too strong and I suspect it was possibly the culprit which cost me a trip to the doctor for stomach discomfort : |

Marche, VivoCity

Yesterday's visit was my first and it's been about a year since my last visit to the one at 313 Somerset. Marche makes me think of the good old days in secondary school, when it was located at Heeren. I remembered the sheer joy of sitting under the tree which had an "Autumn In My Heart" feel. Ha.

I didn't expect to see a long queue at 6.30pm especially since the staff said that the crowd starts at 7 and advised me to come at this time. I was surprised too that the restaurant was rather small and cramped. But the space issue aside, the food was generally good and service was not too bad. Tried some other items besides the usual Rosti and Crepe.



















Waited for almost 45 minutes to get a table. Why can't they accept reservations?


























I don't remember enjoying such deals at eateries when I was a kid.






















The food cover look-alike lamp was a nuisance to our heads!

Spanish Paella. Comparable to, or even better than the pricey ones at Spanish restaurants!




















Rosti with Chicken Cheese Sausage. Yummy sour cream but the rosti was not fried evenly to a brown crisp. And I didn't taste any cheese flavour in the sausage.




















Steak.




















Mushroom Crepe.


























Root Beer. Actually this can be bought at supermarkets.


























Hot Chocolate. Rich and satisfying, the perfect drink for a cold rainy day.




















Belgian Waffle with Panna Cotta. The waffle was hot and fresh but the batter was bland. Not quite worth the 20 minutes of waiting time. They should seriously consider having more waffle machines!




















Left the restaurant feeling happy :)

I couldn't resist this when I saw it at a kids stationery sale at Square 2. I don't even play the game. Must be the influence from those primary school kids!

ChicKing

Decided to try ChicKing at Marina Link after hearing good reviews about it. I ordered a Combi Meal with a choice of burger or wrap. Chose the wrap which was packaged like a big candy. The chicken pieces with vegetables and maynonnaise were rolled into a soft tortilla which seemed like a healthy snack, if not for the chicken pieces which were fried.

I didn't quite like the mashed potato which had a strong milky taste. The one-piece chicken looked quite small at first glance but at the end of the meal, I felt that the serving was actually appropriate as it did not leave me with a greasy feel and a "shouldn't have eaten" sense of regret. The chicken had its own unique taste, different from KFC and I would say, better than Popeyes. The fine crispy crumbs were tasty and I found myself picking at the bones for whatever leftover crumbs I could find. Worth a second try.
